What is rostered staff factor?

A rostered staff factor (RSF), also known as an overlay, is a numerical factor that determines the minimal amount of staff necessary on schedule, in addition to the base staff required to meet your service level and reaction time goals.

It accounts for breaks, absenteeism, and ongoing training, and is computed after base personnel is decided and before schedules are created.

Rostered staff factor vs. shrinkage

Rostered staff factor and shrinkage are used interchangeably since they both refer to the requirement for additional personnel over and above the base crew. These terminologies, however, have two unique meanings.

The amount of non-productivity and financial loss associated with the base and planned employees is referred to as shrinkage. It calculates how much the workforce will decline as a result of a variety of business elements that are required yet ineffective.

A rostered staff factor, on the other hand, looks at how many more employees are needed as a result of the shrinkage.
